经历了Xbox的投石问路阶段，微软充分吸取了宝贵的经验，对Xbox360主机的外观设计还是内部构造都作出的一定的调整，而为了抛开庞大的主机体积，Xbox360采用了电源外置设计，仔细查看主机套装的配件会发现Xbox360套装内会有一个黑色长条形的电源适配器，笔者分析了这个全新设计归纳了3个优点：1.大大减少了机箱内有限的体积空间 2.外置电源减轻了机箱内散热负担 3.减轻机箱重量之余电源适配器替换更为方便。

内部总布局 
　　随着家用机日益完善化，现在的游戏机主要配件都与一台成品的电脑十分相似，尽管是有着相似的配件，但由于面对领域不同，设计也会随之而不同，所以最终的实际运算能力也有着很大的差异。 
　　众览Xbox360主机硬件架构，高时钟频率的CPU和GPU并没有专属的风扇散热器，取而代之的则是散热效果更为出色的纯铜散热器+排气通道方式，CPU和GPU核心都紧贴在优质的铜片上，而Xbox360主机背部会有一组大马力排气扇，铜片和排气扇间有一组散热通道使主机内形成一个对流，这样的散热方式效果更为显著。

　　Xbox360采用了大众化的DVD-ROM作为存储媒体，首批主机采用的是东芝-LG的光储存产品，支持双层大容量D9格式光盘，但并非DIY市场所使用普通DVD-ROM，为了保障更高的传输速度，Xbox360内置的DVD-ROM采用的是SATA接口，目前DIY市场的DVD-ROM采用的都是IDE接口的，独特的设计似乎加大了玩家改装难度。

CPU、GPU、内存 
　　拆开纯铜散热器，会见到有两个“X”型的条型散热片，散热片下就分别是Xbox360的CPU和GPU，而其中512MB高速DDR3内存则分布在GPU周围，首批Xbox360主机的内存是采用三星DDR3内存粒，运行频率高达700MHz，拥有22.4 GB/s总线带宽，而这512MB内存是CPU和GPU共用的。

芯片组、总线架构 
　　由于家用机硬件配置统一的缘故，所以Xbox360主机的主要配件都是集成在主板上的，这样的设计好处非常多，不但可以有效降低成本及提高兼容性之余，还能大大压缩体积，营造一个优良的通风效果。

　　Xbox360主板造工精良布局清晰，借鉴了Athlon64设计，Xbox360也省略了一个北桥芯片组，把内存控制器集成在GPU上，大大提高电路实际运行效率，南桥芯片组安置在DVD-ROM下方，主要负责监控USB设备、音频设备、无线设备、硬盘等外设数据的正常运作，Xbox360南桥芯片组由SIS提供，每秒传输速度也达到500MB/s。

相关周边外设 
　　由于Xbox360已经不在局限于单机游戏领域，为了向下兼容Xbox、适应网络游戏及强大的多媒体需要，硬盘是非常有必要的，Xbox360是采用外接微硬盘方式，可自行随意拆下。尽管硬盘是安置在机箱之外，但解拆后可见其避震措施并不简单，内有一个电源线桥接Xbox360电源输出口和硬盘电源接口，首批Xbox360主机采用的是20GB容量 / SATA接口的三星微型硬盘。
