In many aspects, Sharp is falling badly (I'm new to Japanese phones though, SH-12C, all my previous phones are samsung
), but the monitor is a big WIN.
I have played with HTC EVO 3D and LG Optimus 3D, and I can tell you without a doubt, Sharp's 3D is the best out of the three. But of course, the level of fatigue is far higher too, limitations of 3D technology at this stage. I've heard they have something new (Toshiba? Sharp?) for 3D, hopefully they will be better.
Now screen resolution. Anyone who is satisfied of 480x800 at a 4.3 inch phone is crazy. The level of details of 480x800 is simply NOT enough! When we talk about phones like Desire S, Moto defy...etc, we notice their monitor is not detailed enough because of the poor ppi. Now you literally stretch it to 3D... I mean wtf? Can you accept that low detail? iPhone 4 has a vastly detailed monitor because they are using 640x960 at a 3.5 inch. Even now Sensation and SH-12C can only operate the same at 4.2 inch... and people are satisfied with 480x800 at LO3D, SGS2? Do have to admit though, the viewing Angle of HTC Senation/Evo 3D is better than Sharp.
Music-wise, I play my music using my Ortofon eQ-7 earphone on several phones (some rented from my friends ), and the only brand that has better music capability is Sony. Sony and Sharp plays music with much much much more details than any other brands (with iPhone 4 among the worst... are we surprised?). Of course, one will argue now for those who are really audiophile will use Cowon mp3 player etc, but considering phone music alone, sharp and sony are up there. Samsung/HTC are plain bad.
Camera-wise, it's Sony being the best again... all other brands apart from Sony just couldn't convince me, including sharp. One thing to note though, taking 3D pictures on SH-12C is much better than Evo3D and LO3D, since I think (I think) Sharp will "modify" the photo a bit when creating 3D photo, the noise are vastly reduced, while colours are more vivid. Doing the same on e.g. Evo, the noise on the 3D pic is still extremely obvious and disturbing.
And something else.... I like Sharp's Tap Flow UI a lot, elegant, and with hell loads of flexibility. Problem is, their camera and photo-frame are so poorly written that they are so slow and unresponsive at times....
So still, Sharp is on their downfall, but they have their unique advantage. Japanese are known for their creativity... I believe they will make things right and return to the game next time round.
